Each year, Josie and the Emeralds honour St Cecilia, Patron Saint of Music. John Dowland’s Lachrimæ or seaven teares figured in seaven passionate pavans, songs from his Pilgrim’s Solace, music by William Byrd, John Blow, Elvis Costello and the premiere of Phoenix Chaconne by Brooke Green, are among the delights of this year’s St Cecilia’s Day program.

Fantasy
Richard Boothby, bass viol

Co-founder of the viol consort Fretwork and Professor of Viol, Royal College of Music, Richard will perform some of Telemann’s newly discovered Fantasias for bass viol and other baroque and contemporary music for solo bass viol. On lyra viol, he will present some songs by William Lawes with Josie Ryan. The program includes three bass repertoire by Lupo and Forqueray, Fantasias for consort viols by William Lawes and music by Brooke Green.
